PlumbingSupply.US Celebrates National Drinking Water Week
ELKINS PARK, PA USA 05 May 2004 :-
(PlumbingSupply.US Newswire) The Wonder Of Water. Safe Drinking Water.
PlumbingSupply.US a global leader in plumbing, environmental plumbing and plumbing news, today announced
that PlumbingSupply.US has observed National Drinking Water Week, 02 May thru 08 May 2004, with a call to action to help protect and preserve a most precious valuable natural resource, drinking water.
"National Drinking Water Week reminds us of the essential role we each play in respecting and protecting our drinking water supply," said Mark Badger, PlumbingSupply.US spokesman. "We all share the benefits of our drinking water, which is among the cleanest and safest in the world. By changes in our daily routines, we can all contribute to protecting this resource for future generations;
Only one percent of the Earth's water is water for human consumption; the total demand for water is 34 million gallons per day."
Badger recommends several simple steps consumers can take to help conserve the water supply:
Water your lawn early in the morning or at night to avoid excess evaporation. Don't over-water your lawn.
Fully load the dishwasher and clothes washer before running. Defrost frozen food in the refrigerator or in the microwave instead of running hot water over the food.
When washing dishes by hand, don't let the water run. Use a broom, rather than a hose, to clean sidewalks and driveways.
If you have a swimming pool, use a cover. You will cut the loss of water by evaporation by 90 percent.
Repair dripping faucets and leaky toilets. Dripping faucets can waste up to 2,000 gallons of water each year in the average home. Leaky toilets can waste as much as 200 gallons per day.
Don't leave the sink running while you brush your teeth. "We're all stewards of the water we drink and use for other purposes," Badger said. "By taking these simple steps, we can feel confident that we are doing our part.
Do not wait a week to fix that leak; PlumbingSupply.US has supplies to stop leaks and make you environment friendly."
Other organisations which endorse and celebrate National Drinking Water Week are the American Water Works Association,
http://www.awwa.org/advocacy/dww/, and the Water Quality Association, http://www.wqa.org, along with many citizens, governments, municipal water authorities and environmental groups across America.
